Aegon GB Pro-Series
January - November 2013
Last updated: 09/02/2013
Ed Corrie’s impressive Aegon GB Pro-Series run continued at Wirral on Saturday as he captured his second title in three weeks.
Playing in his third consecutive final, 24 year-old Corrie defeated fourth seed Dan Smethurst to seal a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The first break point of the match fell to Smethurst at 4-4, which was saved and in the following game Corrie had a break point and set point of his own, which he took to capture the first set 6-4.
Building on the momentum from this and from the past few weeks, Corrie then raced away with the second set.
After the match Corrie, who is based at Gosling, reflected on a very successful few weeks, and said: “This has been a great few weeks for me and potentially pushes my ranking into the top 400 for the first time. It’s great playing in front of such a good crowd. I would also like to thank the ball crew today who were first class.”
Corrie will now be taking a few days well deserved rest, before getting back on court to prepare for the next set of Aegon GB Pro-Series events starting in Cardiff at the end of the month.
