On day two of the singles main draw in Cumberland all matches were contested by either a British or French player. It was the former nationality who came out on top though as seven of the eight quarter-final places were taken by Britons.
Four matches were an all British affair. Neil Pauffley beat Marcus Willis in a three set battle 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and Tom Burn beat Liam Broady in straight sets 6-2 ,6-1.
Dan Evans, the No.3 seed, came through a straightforward match against George Coupland winning 6-4, 6-1. Richard Bloomfield, the No.2 seed, came back from losing the first set to beat Edward Corrie 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The top seed, Alexandre Sidorenko from France, is the only non-Briton in the quarter-finals as he put out British player Jack Carpenter 6-4, 6-2. Joshua Milton, the sixth seed, put an end to Frenchman Rudy Coco’s campaign, winning 6-1, 7-5.
The upset of the day however saw Kyle Edmund beat the No.7 seed, Yannick Jankovits from France, who is ranked nearly 500 places above the young British player, winning 7-5, 6-2. Dan Cox completes the quarter-final line up after the unseeded player beat France’s Jule Marie, seeded four, 6-4 6-2.
