On Sunday the qualifying for the main draw singles event began at The Tarka Tennis Centre for the AEGON GB Pro-Series Barnstaple.
A number of young British players were in the draw, with the opportunity to gain experience of competing at this high prize money level on the ITF Pro Circuit.
Lauren Mcminn started the day with a hard fought win over Finnish player Mia Eklund. After losing the first set, the 19 year old British player came back to win the match in a very tight final set tie break, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(7).
Mcminn has set up a second round match against the second seed Mayya Katsitadze from Russia, which will be on court 6 at 11am on Monday.
Lucy Brown won one of the all British battles that took place, showing convincing form against another young player Danielle Konotoptseva, winning 6-0, 6-4, and now faces fourth seed Jade Windley, another British player, on court 4 today.
The number one seed in qualifying, Katerina Vankova from the Czech Republic, will also be in action on Monday. Having had a bye in the first round she will take on British player Hollie Bees.
