Elizabeth and Rundong enjoy title success

• 2 MINUTE READ

Llongyfarchiadau to Elizabeth Evans and Rundong Huang who won titles in Dublin and Sunderland respectively.

Elizabeth enjoyed success in the singles and doubles at the J30 Under-18 ITF event in Dublin, while Rundong lifted doubles silverware at the Under-14 Lexus Junior National Tour in Sunderland.

Elizabeth, seeded 1, won her first Under-18 ITF singles title after fighting back from losing the first set of her final against Liubou Murashka 0-6, to take the second set 7-5, and then racing into a 5-0 third-set lead when her opponent retired.

In the doubles top seeds Elizabeth and fellow Brit Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako faced second seeds Emily Lederer of Austria and Aurora Zurmuehle of Switzerland. After taking the first set 6-4, the British pair went down 4-6 in the second set, before winning a third set tie-break 10-5.

Rundong and partner Isaac Sallu faced a tough test against the second seeds Dash Green and Jan Janda in their final and lost the first set 0-4, the first they had dropped in the whole tournament. However, they won the second set 4-2, before enjoying a 10-4 victory in the decider.

Tennis Wales Head of Performance Chris Lewis said: “Da iawn to both Elizabeth and Rundong. Elizabeth’s success comes hot on the heels of her title success in the Ladies’ singles at the Lexus LTA British Tour event in Hull and shows the great progress she is making.

“Rundong’s win is testament to all the hard work he puts in, in training and is yet another demonstration of the strength-and-depth in Welsh tennis in the junior ranks.”
