Schools inspired by a summer of sport can apply for additional support to deliver tennis through the Tennis Foundation's Small Grants Scheme.
The Schools Tennis Members' Small Grants Scheme opened for applications in November 2012 and member schools can apply for a grant of up to £500 to increase tennis provision at their school.
The Small Grants Scheme is just one element of the work carried out by the Schools Tennis team within the LTA and Tennis Foundation, as part of their significant annual investment into Schools Tennis across England, Scotland and Wales. Up to £20,000 of funding is available to schools through the scheme.
Small grants are aimed at increasing tennis participation and the Tennis Foundation is looking to support projects that are innovative, sustainable and which can enable a large number of pupils to play the sport.
The scheme looks to support schools to: purchase additional equipment, support a teacher to extend their knowledge by attending a Coach Qualification Course, to repaint existing, or create new court markings on sports areas and playgrounds, support the provision of school visits to a local tennis venue or transport for tennis related school trips.
Schools are also asked to demonstrate an element of match funding to show their commitment to the project.
Paul Williams, Schools Tennis Manager at the Tennis Foundation said, "With over 14,700 schools supported through the AEGON Schools Tennis programme and more than 46,000 pupils taking part in schools tennis competitions last year – tennis in schools is thriving!
"The Small Grants Scheme, although just one element of our support, provides schools with much needed finance to enable them to deliver local grassroots activity to get even more young people participating in tennis."
The scheme is open to schools signed up to Schools Tennis Membership, which can be joined for an annual fee of £15 per year for Primary and £35 per year for Secondary Schools. Membership not only brings the opportunity to apply for a small grant but a wide range of additional benefits, including;
