Miami Masters 1000 - Blog 2

Another windy (but warm) day in Miami. Not hot enough to sunbathe so spent some more time at Dadeland Mall looking for an ironing board and shower rails, hooks and curtains. You thought it was a glamorous life, didn't you? Wrong!

I bumped into Fernando Gonzales and his mum in Bed Bath and Beyond and Juan Martin del Potro in the Apple Store where I finally got a new handset although it can't be activated until we are back in the UK!

I managed a quick visit to Abercrombie + Fitch where I was forced to part with some $ in return for a few tops before heading back to the appartment for some DIY.

Andy Murray warming up in Miami

I forgot to mention yesterday that our hire car broke down 15 minutes after we picked it up and Kim and I spent an hour waiting for a mechanic to rescue us! It was quite funny because we had stopped the car outside the apartment and just couldnt start it up. One of those moments where we tried everything, checked through the manual and then tried/checked again - and again!!

I had visions of the mechanic turning up and switching it on first go! Thankfully he couldn't get it going either so the car was towed away and we were taken back to the rental depot and given an upgrade! Love it.

Andy went to the gym at 11 and hit at 1 with Miles and Ross Hutchins who had been training early doors with his partner Jordan Kerr at some High School in Coconut Grove. There aren't enough practice courts on site for everyone (even though it's a massive complex which serves as the USTA National Centre for the rest of the year) so the doubles guys have to hit off site. Jamie was there too with his partner Simon Aspelin.

They all appeared back at the apartment after they'd had a massage and lunch followed by a brief meeting with the new creative agency employed by Head. After a spot of 2k basketball on the playstation, it was off to the University of Miami to watch Dani Valverdu (Andy's best mate from Sanchez Academy) playing for UM v Virginia Uni. It was quite weird because number one for Virginia is Dominic Inglot from Middlesex who we all knew since 12&U tourneys! It's a small tennis world.

Nicole Vaidisova who won her opening match in Miami

No major upsets at the tennis today although Nicole Vaidisova thumped one of the Bondarenko sisters, who was seeded No.28, 6-0 6-1. Vaidisova was a top 10 player (currently dating Stepanek) who lost her way. She's now parted company with David Felgate (Henman's ex coach) and is back working with her step father Alex Kodats.

Off to Wholefoods now to get dinner. Eating in tonight. Went to Poor Cow restaurant last night and Max Mirnyi was in with his dad and Liesel Huber with her husband Tony and her brother. Great restaurant with coconut cream pie to die for!

Andy on 2nd after 1pm tomorrow against Juan Monaco on the Stadium court.

Later guys : )
