Tuesday 19th August
So it’s Tuesday and my last day in Beijing, I went to the athletics last night. The Birds Nest Stadium is phenomenal and everything operated like clockwork.
The highlight of the night was Isanbeva breaking the world record with her final attempt at 5.05 in the pole vault.
It’s been such an experience and I can't wait for 2012. I hope we can run an equally impressive Olympics and that we provide equally efficient and friendly service to all who visit London. The Chinese people could not have been more welcoming or helpful - they were so clearly delighted to be hosting the Games.
I enjoyed all the sports and supporting Team GB but the 2 sports which were the most exciting and entertaining in terms of speed of action and crowd involvement were handball and beach volleyball. Hope we get teams out for these events in 4 years time.
The final afternoon will be spent haggling on Silk Street and at the Pearl Market. Phelps did it yesterday apparently and if it’s good enough for him...
