Jankovic returning to DFS Classic in 2008

World number five Jelena Jankovic has confirmed that she will return to defend her title this summer at the DFS Classic in Edgbaston

Defending champion and world number five Jelena Jankovic has confirmed that she will return to Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham for the DFS Classic from 7th-15th June (box office 0871 945 3000).

In a thrilling final last year Jankovic beat Maria Sharapova, who won the event in 2004 and 2005, in three closely contested sets. Jankovic has had an impressive start to 2008 reaching semi finals at the Australian Open, Dubai, and Indian Wells and was runner up in Miami.

The DFS Classic was one of four titles that Jelena won in 2007, a breakthrough year for the young Serb. The others titles were at WTA Tour events in Auckland, Charleston and Rome, finishing as runner up in Sydney, s-Hertogenbosch, Toronto and Beijing. Jankovic also became a Grand Slam Champion when she entertained the crowds at the All England Club, teaming up with Jamie Murray to win the Mixed Doubles title.

She has been a real favourite at the DFS Classic since 2004 and has now cemented her position as one of the world’s best tennis players. Spectators can look forward to some world class tennis with other top players likely to be announced in the next few weeks.”

Tickets are currently on sale for the DFS Classic which takes place at the Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham and offers sports fans an opportunity to watch world class tennis. Ticket information is available from the box office on 0871 945 3000. Qualifying for the DFS Classic begins on 7th June with main draw matches taking place between 9th-15th June.
