La Manga Club, Spain
For the 2012 off-season, some of Britain’s top tennis players and their support teams have gone out to La Manga, Spain in preparation for the 2013 season.
LTA Head of Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Leon Smith, said: “La Manga Club perfectly understand the requirements of our players, particularly with regards to clay court play, and offer excellent practice facilities during the entire year, including the off-season.”
The players and coaches are providing pictures, videos and updates around their on-court and off-court activities.

Aegon Junior International Wrexham
Ewan Moore and Jodie Burrage have won the boys’ and girls’ singles titles at the Aegon Junior International Wrexham, a Tennis Europe 14U event held at the North Wales Regional Tennis Centre.
In the boys’ singles final, unseeded Moore faced seventh seed Luke Hammond claiming victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win. Moore, who did not drop a set all week, said after his match: "What a great week. I was really focused and played really well in the second set."
In the girls’ singles final, third seeded Burrage defeated Ema Lazic 6-3, 6-3 to claim victory. John Trehearn, National Girls’ Junior Coach who attended the event, said: "Jodie has had a great week. She didn't drop a set and moved the ball and her opponents around the court well."
Meanwhile in the doubles Burrage had further success with partner Ellie-Rose Griffiths. The pair claimed the title after a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Louie McLelland & Camille Verden Anderson. In the boys’ doubles final Max Stewart & Dominic West defeated Joseph Ellis & Alexander Carlos Parker 6-4, 7-6(1).

Category 3 - II Memorial Luzío Vaz – Portugal
Ewen Lumsden has won the 12U boys’ singles title in Portugal. Lumsden, who qualified for the event, played Carlos Sanchez Jover of Spain for the title winning 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile Lumsden and fellow Briton Aidan McHugh reached the boys’ doubles semi-finals before suffering defeat.

Nike Junior Tour
Jay Clarke finished as the boys’ singles runner up at the Nike Junior Tour International Finals in Miami, USA. In the final Clarke played Hungarian Mate Valkusz being narrowly defeated in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Other British junior players in action were Jack Draper, Nell Miller, Marcus Walters, Sophie Drakeford-Lewis and Jazzi Plews.

International University Tennis Masters
Great Britain finished seventh at the Master U BNP Paribas, the International University Tennis Masters, in France. The team of six - Scott Whitbread (Loughborough), Joe Gill (Stirling), Matt James (Cardiff Met), Amanda Elliot (Loughborough), Natasha Starling (Bath) and Yvanna Kurlak (Exeter) - represented BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) at the prestigious event in Aix-en-Provence.
GB finish 7th at International University Tennis Masters
BUCS Tennis Leagues
This week saw the last BUCS matches taking place before the Christmas break. In the Women’s Premier South division, Bath Ladies 1st team defeated Cardiff Met 12-0. This victory sees Bath remain at the top of the table over the festive period.
In the Men’s Premier South division Bath and Cardiff also met, with the match finishing in a 6-6 draw. Bath Men’s team now join their Ladies at the top of the table, while Cardiff Met remain bottom of the group. In the North of the country there were victories for both Manchester Men’s 3rd team and Liverpool Men’s 1st team in Division 2A of the Northern league.
