Veteran Player of the Year

Criteria: Male or female players aged 35 & over who have had outstanding national or international results either individually or as part of a team in the last year.

Ken Buswell

Ken BuswellKen dominated the men’s 75 age category in Britain throughout the year claiming singles titles at all the major domestic events. He won the British Open Indoor Championships, British Open Clay Court Championships and British Grass Court Championships.

Ken was a key member of the Great Britain team that finished fourth in the Bitsy Grant Cup at the ITF World Team Championships while his consistent performances during 2008 made him a regular in the world’s top 10 players.

Christine French

Christine FrenchChristine demonstrated her versatility by winning titles on all three Grand Slam surfaces during 2008. The highlight of the year saw her finish runner-up in the 45 singles at the ITF World Individual Championships where she was also a semi-finalist in the 45 doubles. Representing Great Britain, she helped the team into sixth place in the Margaret Court Cup at the ITF World Team Championships.

Domestically, Christine won the 45 singles and 40 doubles titles at the British Grass Court Championships while she also reached the 45 singles final and won the 40 doubles title at the British Open Clay Court Championships.

Sue Hill

Sue HillSue announced herself on the world stage by partnering American Charleen Hillebrand to 65 doubles victory at the ITF World Individual Championships. She also reached the 65 singles semi-final at the same event and represented the Great Britain team that finished third in the Kitty Godfree Cup at the ITF World Team Championships.

Currently ranked inside the world’s top 10, Sue won the 65 singles and 60 doubles titles at the British Open Indoor Championships and British Grass Court Championships while she also won the 60 doubles title at the British Open Clay Court Championships.

Richard Tutt

Richard TuttRichard, who partnered Keith Bland for much of 2008, dominated 60 doubles events both nationally and internationally. The pair won titles together at the ITF World Individual Championships, British Open Indoor Championships and British Grass Court Championships.

In addition, Richard won the 60 singles titles at the British Open Indoor Championships and British Grass Court Championships and the 60 doubles title with Olly Rogger at the British Open Clay Court Championships. He also represented Great Britain in the Von Cramm Cup at the ITF World Team Championships.
