November AEGON Award winners announced

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

The AEGON Awards for November have been presented to Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski, Lucy Brown, and Vicky Broadbent. The monthly Awards are given out in three separate categories: Player, Junior Player and Coach.

Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski – Player of the Month

Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski have won the AEGON Player of the Month award for the second time this year after winning their second ATP World title of the season at the $663.75k St Petersburg Open in Russia.

The pair also achieved career high rankings in November with Skupski reaching No.50, and Fleming following closely at No.52.

En route to their title victory in St Petersburg, the pair scored impressive wins over tournament No.3 seeds Rohan Bopanna (IND) and Travis Parrott (USA) in the opening round and then defeated World No.9 Andy Ram (ISR) and partner Jonathan Erlich (ISR) in the semi-finals.

The pair had previously won the Player of the Month in June, becoming the first doubles team to be recognised together for the award.

Lucy Brown - Junior Player of the Month

Lucy Brown has been awarded the AEGON Junior Player of the Month for November after her impressive recent performance at the Grade 2 Junior Championships in Thailand, in which she finished runner-up.

The 16 year-old also secured a career high ranking of 134 at the start of the month and now holds an ITF Junior ranking of 139.

Vicky Broadbent - Coach of the Month

The Coach of the Month award has been awarded to Vicky Broadbent, a coach at the Mold Tennis Club in North Wales. She has worked tirelessly to help the club achieve Clubmark status this year as well as playing a pivotal role in the development of a good quality schools programme.

In addition, Vicki has undertaken extensive training to tutor UKCC1 Tennis Leaders and competition organiser courses, and is therefore playing an important role in developing new potential tennis coaches and competition organisers in the North Wales area.
