Jonathan Marray has celebrated achieving a Top 100 doubles ranking this week by reaching the semi-finals of the $125 ATP Challenger event in Astana (KAZ).
Marray, who has moved up to No.100 in the doubles rankings after recording notable performances including a runners-up finish at the €42.5k ATP Challenger doubles event in Kolding (DEN), has teamed up with Jamie Murray to reach the semi-final in Astana.
The British pair, seeded No.2 for this event, defeated the Russian duo of Teimuraz Gabashvili and Denis Matsukevich 6-2, 6-4 and now meet No.4 seeds Denis Istomin (UZB) and Alexey Kedryuk (KAZ) for a place in the final.
Meanwhile in the other semi-final clash, No.1 seeds David Martin (USA) and Rogier Wassen (NED) face the German pair Frank Moser and Bjorn Phau.
On the women’s circuit, British No.4 Mel South is through to the second round of the $50k event in Ismaning (GER) after a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 victory over tournament No.1 seed Stefanie Voegele (SUI) and now faces Elena Chalova (RUS) in the second round.
Katie O’Brien has also progressed to the second round of the event in Germany after winning 6-3, 6-3 over Nikola Hofmanova (AUT). The tournament No.4 seed recorded her highest ever world ranking this week as she moved up to No.90, capping a splendid recent period which has seen her win the AEGON Player of the Month for October.
The British No.3 now plays Mariya Koryttseva (UKR), who currently holds a world ranking of 120.
Andy Murray is in action again tonight in the second round of the ATP Tour event in Valencia (ESP) where he faces Leonardo Mayer (ARG). Murray will hope to continue his comeback from injury with a win and if successful, he will face Spanish opposition in the quarter-finals, in the form of David Ferrer or Albert Montanes.
