Inglot upsets seed in Charlottesville

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Dominic Inglot has reached the quarter-finals of the $50k ATP Challenger event in Charlottesville (USA) after an impressive victory over tournament No.7 seed and World No.164 Roko Karanusic (CRO).

The Briton belied the 940 places separating the pair in the world rankings to record a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 win and set up a quarter-final clash with Donald Young (USA). They will be joined by two seeded American players in the last eight, No.1 seed Michael Russell and No.5 seed Ryan Sweeting.

Inglot, who received a wild card entry into the event, had already claimed victory over Ilia Bozoljac (SRB) in the first round, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 against a player ranked 899 places above the London-born 23 year-old.

Inglot is also competing in the doubles event, after a wild card entry with partner Rylan Rizza (USA), where he inflicted another defeat on Bozoljac in the opening round. Inglot and Rizza won 7-5, 7-6(0) against the No.4 seeds Bozoljac and Nicholas Monroe (USA) and now face Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) and Filip Prpic (SWE) in the quarter-finals.

After recent title victories in doubles events in Germany at the $10k events in Leimen and Hambach and his most recent success at the $15k AEGON Pro-Series in Glasgow, Inglot has climbed 60 positions in the doubles ranking this week to No.411 and will be hoping to continue his impressive 24-3 win ratio in doubles this year.

Elsewhere on the men's tour, Philip Barlow has reached the semi-finals of the $15k doubles event in Dakar (SEN) with partner Tony Holzinger (GER). After defeating Kokou Bernard Alipoe- Tchotchodji (TOG) and Celestin Nkoueleue (CMR) 7-5, 6-4, the pair now face tournament No.2 seeds Reda El Amrani (MAR) and Claudio Grassi (ITA) for a place in the semi-finals.

Josh Goodall has been knocked out of the €30k ATP Eckental Challenger in the second round after being forced retire against A Peya (AUT) with the score at 4-6, 0-2.
