Borwell reaches semis in Ortisei

Sarah Borwell reached the semi-finals of the $100k doubles event in Ortisei, Italy, with partner Raquel Kops-Jones (USA).

After progressing to the semi-finals without dropping a set, the tournament No.2 seeds were defeated 6-7(3), 3-6 by Tathiana Garbin (ITA) and Timea Bacsinszky (SUI), who went on to win the tournament, beating the No.1 seeds Galina Voskoboeva (KAZ) and Barbora Zahlavona- Strycova (CZE) 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

Christopher Simpson won the AEGON British Tour in Taunton after winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 against Artiom Kolpakov (LTU). Simpson, the tournament No.7 seed, defeated No.2 seed and fellow Briton David Brewer 6-2, 7-5 in the semi-final before battling past Kolpakov in three sets.

In the final of the women’s event, No.4 seed Jessica Ren defeated No.6 seed Alexandra Walker 6-3, 6-3. Ren reached the final after defeating her sister and No.1 seed Jen Ren in the semi-finals.

At the $15k Men’s doubles event in Dakar, Senegal, Richard Brooks and partner Anton Peskov (RUS) lost 3-6, 3-6 to Duncan Mugabe (UGA) and Clifford Enosoregbe (NIG) who went on to win the event after they defeated Daouda N’Diaye (SEN) and Valentin Sanon (CIV) 7-6(5) 3-6 (10-7).

Meanwhile on the junior circuit, Lucy Brown finished runner-up at the Grade 2 Junior Championships Girls’ singles in Nanthaburi, Thailand after losing 6-4, 6-7(1), 0-6 to Haochen Tang (CHN). Brown impressed throughout the week, defeating No.1 seed Miyabi Inoue (JPN) 7-5, 7-5 to set up the final clash with Tang.

Nicole Peterson and her partner Amy Bowtell (IRE) finished runners-up at the Grade 4 ITF Junior doubles event in Andorra after losing 4-6, 6-2, (8-10) to Anita Husaric (BIH) and Francesca Palmigiano (ITA). Peterson also reached the semi-finals of the singles event, succumbing 2-6, 3-6 to Alessia Camplone (ITA).

In the Boys' singles event in Andorra, Joshua Ward-Hibbert lost 0-6, 4-6 in the semi-finals to No.6 seed Andres Artunedo- Martinavarr (ESP)
