Two British players have reached the semi-finals of the $15k AEGON Pro-Series in Cardiff with Dan Evans and Marcus Willis continuing their fine form as the event enters its fifth day.
Tournament No.4 seed Evans looked to be heading for a comfortable victory when serving for the match at 6-2, 5-4 before his opponent Daniel Lustig (CZE) fought back to win the second set.
The British No.5 then went a break down early in the third set before breaking back to win the set and subsequently the match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to earn a place in the semi-finals.
The other Briton competing in the quarter-final draw also progressed into the semi-final after Willis won 6-3, 6-0 against James McGee (IRL). "I thought that I played well today and that I got my tactics right," said Willis afterwards.
After defeating No.3 seed Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR) in an earlier round, Willis now meets No.2 seed Yannick Mertens (BEL) in the semi-final whilst Evans will play Henri Kontinen (FIN), who defeated local boy Joshua Milton in the second round yesterday.
Meanwhile in the doubles, No.2 seeds Tim Bradshaw and Alexander Slabinsky defeated Willis and Neil Pauffley 7-6(4) 7-6(3) in the semi-finals and will meet the Irish pair and No.3 seeds Barry KIng and McGee in the final after they won 6-1 0-6 [10-6] against Evans and Milton.
Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski are through to the semi-final of the $663.75k St Petersburg Open in Russia after winning 7-6, 6-4 against Pablo Cuevas (URU) and Horacio Zeballos (ARG).
