This week in British Tennis, Friday 10th July

  • Find out who will be competing for titles over the weekend as a busy week of tournaments around Britain draws to a close.

  • Georgie Stoop is through to the quarter final at the $25k event in La Coruna, Spain. The British No.5, who is the fourth seed in the singles draw, will meet Russian No.7 seed Alexandra Panova.

  • Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski are set to face Belgian Ruben Bemelmans and Italian Riccardo Ghedin in the doubles semi-final at the €85k Pozoblanco Challenger, also in Spain. Last month, the British pair defeated the Bryan brothers in straight sets at the AEGON Championships.

  • Jocelyn Rae edged past Naomi Broady 6-4 4-6 7-5 on Friday to reach the semi-final at AEGON Pro-Series Felixstowe, a men’s $15k and women’s $10k event. The 18 year-old is joined in the last four by No.2 seed Anna Smith and British junior No.1 Heather Watson who now face each other. There are no British players through to the semi final stage in the men’s draw.

  • Lucy Shuker has won her first round match at the Trofeo della Mole, a NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour event, in Turin, Italy. The British No.1, who reached the inaugural women’s wheelchair doubles final at Wimbledon last week, will play Italian Marianna Lauro in the second round.

  • Reed’s School and Cheam High School have won the Glanvill and Aberdare Cups at the national finals for AEGON Team Tennis Schools. Taking place this week at Queenswood, it was the third consecutive year that these two schools were victorious.

  • The first week of the AEGON Scottish Junior International in Edinburgh, a 18&U ITF Grade 5 and 14&U Tennis Europe Category 3 event, will conclude on Saturday with three all-British singles finals scheduled to take place. Amy Askew and Francesca Stephenson will meet in the 18&U girls’ final while the 14&U finals will see Shakeel Manji take on Ryan Frankel and Harriet Dart face Brigit Folland.

  • Elsewhere on the junior ITF circuit, four British players have reached the quarter final stage at tournaments around the world - Elisha Gabb at the Grade 1 event in Berlin, Daneika Borthwick at the Grade 3 event in Darwin, Elliot Barnwell at the Grade 4 event in Den Haag and Daniel Cochrane at the Grade 5 event in Corfu.

  • Over the weekend, qualifying for three separate competitions will get under way around Britain - AEGON Pro-Series Manchester, AEGON Pro-Series Frinton and the second week of the AEGON Scottish Junior International in Edinburgh.
