GB Captain John Lloyd has selected Ross Hutchins in the AEGON GB Davis Cup team for next month’s tie against Ukraine.
Great Britain will meet Ukraine in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I from 6-8th March at Braehead Arena, Renfrewshire.
Lloyd, who made a decision in January to select one doubles specialist in the team, was forced to choose between Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins.
“Choosing between two quality doubles players was always going to be tough,” said Lloyd.
“I’ve been studying the players since the last tie in September and feel that Ross has been playing the better tennis over the last four or five months so he gets the nod this time.
“Jamie is a very talented doubles player and has always thrived in the Davis Cup environment and I have no doubt that he will feature in the team in the future.
“With Andy and Ross in the team, it is up to the guys in the play-offs to step up and show that they are ready to play for Great Britain.”
The GB Davis Cup play-offs will take place at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton on Monday 23rd February, Wednesday 25th February and Friday 27th February.
Six players will be hoping to impress John Lloyd and GB Davis Cup Coach Paul Annacone and gain a place in the team. The six players are:
- Josh Goodall
- Alex Slabinsky
- James Ward
- Dan Evans
- Chris Eaton
- Colin Fleming
