Murray wants three in a row at Paris Masters

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Andy and Jamie Murray are both competing this week at the penultimate ATP Tour event of 2008, the Paris Masters, with only the Shanghai Masters Cup remaining next month.

Andy will be attempting to win his third successive Masters title after victories in Cincinnati and Madrid which, along with wins in Doha, Marseille and St Petersburg, have taken his ATP title haul to five for the year. After gaining a bye in the opening round, the world No 4 will meet American Sam Querry in the last 32.

Jamie will be looking to end his year on a high as he teams up with Czech Republic’s Pavel Vizner in the doubles. The unseeded pair will face the Scot’s former partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Marin Cilic of Croatia.

British No 1 Anne Keothavong will be in singles and doubles action at the $100k event in Bratislava while Elena Baltacha, Katie O’Brien and Anna Hawkins are all competing at the $50k event in Istanbul.

On the Challenger circuit, Alex Bogdanovic and Josh Goodall are playing in Kentucky while doubles specialists Jamie Delgado and James Auckland will be vying for the title in Aachen, Germany.

In London, a strong field of players will be fighting for the men’s $10k singles and doubles titles at Campden Hill LTC. The event will see a number of Britain’s most promising juniors go head to head against experienced opposition.

After claiming his third senior victory in Glasgow last week, Dan Evans will be full of confidence ahead of his first round match. The 18 year-old has reached six semi-finals since the summer and achieved a career high world ranking of No 558 earlier this month.

British No 5 Richard Bloomfield will be the top seed in the main draw with the Norfolk right-hander looking to claim his second title of 2008 on home soil. Among the other players to watch out for are Ken Skupski, Marcus Willis and Colin Fleming.

Also taking place in Britain this week, the British Tour travels to Taunton while the Nottingham Indoor wheelchair event has attracted a world class entry.
