Hertfordshire men continued their bid for the 2008 County Cup title with an emphatic victory over Cheshire on day two in Eastbourne's Devonshire Park.
The 2006 champions, who include Neil Bamford with a current doubles world ranking of 304, got off to a strong start and had secured their second win of the week before the final round of matches got underway. Cheshire put up a spirited fight throughout with Bamford and Ed Corrie needing a third set tie break to beat their opposing first pair Scott Dickson and Simon Dickson while David Corrie and David Rice beat Cheshire's Jonathan Kinsella and Matthew Smith 7-6 4-6 7-6.
Hertfordshire will be full of confidence going into day three but will face a tough challenge from Lancashire who have also won both their matches, today beating North of Scotland 6-3.
In the final group one match, in Devonshire Park, Yorkshire also showed that they are strong contenders for the title with an impressive 7-2 victory over defending champions Kent.
In the women's event Warwickshire are the only unbeaten side, defeating defending champions Lancashire 6-3 with Luisa Lowper and Louise Latimer winning all three of their rubbers. They will face Buckinghamshire on day three.
Newly promoted South Wales are finding it hard work in group one with a second defeat of the week, losing to Surrey 7-2, while Buckinghamshire also promoted last year lost a close match to Hertfordshire 5-4.
