Murray eases through first round in Doha

Andy Murray eased through the opening round at the Qatar Open in Doha on Tuesday.

Murray made light work of his first round match against Albert Montanes, beating the Spaniard 6-2 6-4 in 1 hour 14 minutes.

The British No 1, who is the defending champion in Doha having defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in the 2008 final, will meet German Philipp Petzschner in the last 16.

In Monday’s doubles first round, Murray and Ross Hutchins bowed out against Germans Philipp Kohlschreiber and Christopher Kas 5-7 4-6.

Last week, Murray began his season by winning the title at an exhibition event Abu Dhabi, seeing off James Blake, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal en route to victory.

In Australia, Jamie Murray and new partner Dusan Vemic of Serbia got off to a winning start at the Brisbane International, reaching the quarter-final after beating experienced Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer in their opening match [read more].
