Last eight beckons for Murray in Doha

Andy Murray continued his unbeaten run in 2009 by easing into the quarter-final at the Qatar Open in Doha.

Murray, who begins the year ranked No.4 in the world, saw off Philipp Petzschner 6-2 6-4 in Wednesday’s second round.

The 21 year-old took little over an hour to despatch the German, breaking serve three times and notching six aces on his way to the last eight.

Murray will now meet Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky on Thursday as he continues to defend the title he won in 2008.

Last week, the British No.1 opened his 2009 campaign by winning the title at the exhibition event in Abu Dhabi, beating James Blake, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal en route to victory.

Elsewhere, Anne Keothavong is through to the quarter-final at the ASB Classic in Auckland while Alex Bogdanovic has reached the same stage at the $75k Challenger in Noumea, New Caledonia [read more].
