Anne Keothavong is through to the quarter-final at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
Keothavong booked her place in the last eight with a comprehensive second round victory on Wednesday, beating No.8 seed Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2 6-4.
In a match lasting 1 hour 24 minutes, the British No.1, who is currently at a career high world ranking of No.60, decisively broke the Spaniard’s serve on six occasions.
Keothavong will now meet Japanese qualifier Ayumi Morita, ranked 23 places below the 25 year-old in the world standings.
In the doubles, Sarah Borwell and German Martina Muller were beaten in the quarter-final by Spaniards Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja 3-6 1-6.
Meanwhile, Jamie Murray and new partner Dusan Vemic of Serbia also bowed out at the quarter-final stage of the Brisbane International in Australia, losing against American Travis Parrott and Slovakian Filip Polasek 3-6 4-6.
Boggo wins battle of Brits in Noumea
Alex Bogdanovic saw off Alex Slabinsky 6-3 7-5 in the second round at the $75k Challenger in Noumea, New Caledonia. In a rain interrupted match, the British No.2 trailed 0-40 when serving at 6-3 6-5 but turned the game around to book a spot in the quarter-final.
Bogdanovic, who is also through to the last eight in the doubles with fellow Brit Josh Goodall, will now face German wildcard Florian Mayer, a former top 40 player.
Ren claims ITF victory in Sweden
Jennifer Ren won the girls’ singles title at the ITF Grade 4 event in Stockholm. In Tuesday’s final, the No.2 seed from Yorkshire came from behind to beat Sweden’s Ellen Allgurin 5-7 6-2 6-2.
Ren, who is currently at a career high junior world ranking of No.214, also reached the doubles semi-final with her younger sister Jessica, the British pair losing to the eventual winners in a championship tie-break.
In the boys’ singles, Oliver Golding finished runner-up after a fine run to the final which included a three sets victory over the No.2 seed in the opening round. The 15 year-old finally lost against Belarusian top seed Andrei Vasilevski 2-6 2-6.
