LTA Chief Executive Roger Draper with President of Tennis Sussex, Nick Greenwood
President of Tennis Sussex Nick Greenwood has been presented with the prestigious Meritorious Service Award by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) in honour of his contribution to the sport.
Nick received his award from LTA Chief Executive Roger Draper after contributing more than 50 years’ service to tennis in Sussex both as a player and a voluntary administrator.
Roger Draper said: “Nick is a superb ambassador for tennis in Sussex and I am delighted to be able to present this award to him.
“He has put a lot of time and effort into the sport here and it is only right that his dedication is rewarded.”
As a junior Nick competed at Junior Wimbledon where he was a quarter finalist on two occasions before going on to play for the Sussex men’s team at County Week, the highlights being when Sussex reached Division 1 in both 1966 and in 1968.
After retiring from county tennis, Nick continued to play to a high standard representing various clubs in the Sussex summer and winter county leagues, and playing for Sussex in the inter-county veterans’ events.
In 1990/91 Nick was elected deputy chairman of Tennis Sussex and he became chairman in 1996 until 2000 when he was appointed President of Tennis Sussex.
