Great Britain has improved its Overall Performance for the third year in a row at the 2011 European Tennis Trophy awards, presented by Tennis Europe.
The European Tennis Trophy awards recognise the performances of 49 European national tennis federations. Using a ranking system based on their players' performances within each discipline, each nation is assessed in four tennis categories; Junior, Professional, Senior and Wheelchair.
In Overall Performance, Great Britain improved its ranking for a third consecutive year, placing seventh. In the last two years, Great Britain is one of only seven nations to improve its Overall Performance ranking.
In the final rankings, Great Britain improved from third place to second for Wheelchair Tennis, placed fourth for Senior Tennis and sixth for the Junior Tennis Trophy.
The race to the Trophy was the closest ever, with the top four nations separated by less than 250 points, with Spain being crowned eventual winners.
Announcing the results, Tennis Europe President Jacques Dupré said, ‘The closeness of this year’s Trophy underlines the health of European tennis in general, and Tennis Europe is looking forward to another year of cooperation and competition between our member nations.’
The 2011 prizes will be awarded at a special ceremony during the Annual General Meeting of Tennis Europe in Lyon in March.
