Russia have defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 in the final of the Tennis Europe Winter Cups 12U Girls event on Sunday at Graves Tennis Centre, Sheffield.
Throughout the entire three days, Russia did not drop a rubber on their way to victory.
The GB girls were also in successful in gaining seventh place after defeating Belarus 2-1 in the play-offs.
In the first singles match of the day, Maria Budin lost to Katyarina Paulenka 7-6(3), 6-4 in a hard fought match. Ali Collins then defeated Ekaterina Grib 6-4, 6-2 to even the tie to 1-1.
Ali Collins & Donia Abdel Aziz then beat Katyarina Paulenka & Ekaterina Grib 6-0, 6-2 in the deciding doubles match to defeat Belarus 2-1.
After the weekend John Trehearn, 12U Girls Captain commented; ‘We finished with a win over Belarus which was great for the team. Ali and Donia clinched the decisive doubles with some great net play. The girls gel well together and they played some really pro-active doubles.’‘I'm delighted for all three girls that they finished with a win - its reward for all the hard work they've put in over the week. They've learnt so much and it’s been terrific experience for them.’‘I'd like to thank the Graves Tennis Centre and Sheffield International Venues for hosting such a well organised event. It’s been good to see top European 12U tennis played here in the UK.’
