The British women's 35 team have won gold in the Suzanne Lenglen Cup at the ITF Seniors World Team Championships in San Diego, USA.
The GB women's 35 team defended their gold medal by defeating France 2-1 in a close final. No.1 singles player Lucie Ahl beat Berangere Karpenschif 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 before No.2 singles Karen Cross lost Alexia Ferrand 6-3, 6-3.
In the crucial doubles rubber Ahl & Cross beat Karpenschif & Ferrand 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to claim the win and the medal for Great Britain.
Lucie Ahl commented after the team's win: "What an end to brilliant week, great to get the Gold again! We all feel proud playing for Great Britain and being world champions again, our team spirit was fantastic which makes a huge difference in these events."
In the men's 35 semi-finals the GB men lost a tight match 2-1 to Spain, losing the deciding doubles rubber and they now play Estonia for the 3rd/4th play off.
The men's 45 team also lost out in the semi-final stage, going down 2-0 to France and will now play USA in the 3rd/4th place play-off.
The women's 50 went down 2-1 to USA in their event and will now take on the Netherlands in a bid for a bronze medal.
It was a similar story for the men’s 55 team as GB played USA in the last four, losing 3-0, and will now look to gain third place over the Netherlands.
The GB women’s 55 team also played USA in the final of the Maureen Connolly Cup, but lost out 2-1 and will come home with the silver medal.
