The Lawn Tennis Association supports The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge to create a grassroots sporting legacy.
The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge -operated by national charity Fields in Trust and led by The Duke of Cambridge – aims to permanently protect outdoor play spaces including playing fields and tennis courts by 2012 as a tribute to London 2012 Olympics and Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
To have plentiful local facilities available is central to the success of grassroots tennis and the LTA is supporting Fields in Trust to identify these sites and work to ensure their inclusion in the programme.
Fields in Trust is the only independent UK wide charity dedicated to protecting and improving outdoor space for sport, play and recreation. Formed in 1925 as the National Playing Fields Association Fields in Trust aims to ensure that everyone - young or old, able or disabled and whether they live in an urban or rural area – has access to free, local facilities for healthy outdoor activities.
Fields in Trust currently protect 1362 sites all across the country totalling 8584 acres ensuring that future generations will have access to outdoor space for sport, play and recreation.
The public can show their support for the programme by signing up at www.qe2fields.com and voting for their favourite sites in October 2011.
AEGON Parks Tennis, delivered by the LTA in partnership with the Tennis Foundation, is helping to increase access to tennis in parks and local communities across Britain. AEGON Parks Tennis is part of British Tennis’ commitment to increase opportunities in the sport and grow the game at all levels.
The long-term aim is to have an AEGON Parks Tennis site acting as a centre of community tennis excellence in each of the local authority areas in Britain.
