Some of the top wheelchair tennis players will be in action in South Wales this week, when the Esporta Cardiff Wheelchair Tennis Tournament takes place at the Welsh National Tennis Centre.
Players from all over Britain, including a strong Welsh contingent, will be taking part.
The men’s top seed is David Phillipson, from Nottingham, ranked 24 in the world, while the top women’s seed is Louise Hunt – the world number 37 - from Swindon. Welsh entries include Debbie Brazier, from Newport, who is number two seed in the women’s event, and Laura Swetman of Pontypridd, who is Wales’ top-seeded junior girl, and ranks 11 in the world.
Phil Cochrane of Cwmbran, ranked fourth in the world boys rankings, will take part in the men’s competition, as he tries to secure a place in the world’s top 100 men – at the age of 16.
The Cardiff event, part of the NEC World Tour, approved by the International Tennis Federation, takes place at the National Tennis Centre, Ocean Way, Cardiff, on Friday to Sunday, October 16th-18th.
Spectators are welcome and admission is free. Play starts at 9.30am on Friday.
