Coach apprenticeship scheme

What is a Coaching Apprenticeship?

This is an innovative programme developed for young people aged 16 to 24 years old who want to pursue a full time professional career in coaching.

Delivered through the governments apprentice scheme, it offers effective training and coach qualifications with specialist mentored experience at an accredited venue. The apprenticeship will also provide a work-based learning pathway, offering the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’.

How does it fit within the coaching structure?

The Coaching Apprenticeship programme is designed to incorporate both the Level 2 and Coach Qualification, it will provide a structured learning pathway which will include work based learning and mentoring at accredited LTA centres.

The Apprenticeship Framework

Funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the LTA, the apprenticeship is designed to take a year to complete, during this time apprentices will undertake the following qualifications alongside their employment.

• UKCC Level 2 Certificate, (Level 2 Coaching Assistant)
• LTA’s Coach Qualification (NVQ Level 2 in Teaching Coaching and Instructing Tennis)
• Industry Standards are Awareness Certificate
• Key Skills Level 1 in Application of Number and Communication (if applicable)

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to do this apprenticeship you must meet the following criteria:

• Aged 16-24
• Living in England
• Not in full time Education or hold a degree
• Post A levels is acceptable including gap year students
• Hold a UKCC Level 1 Coaching Qualification (Level 1 Coaching Assistant)
• Have or arrange a coaching position at a centre/club for a minimum of 16 hours per week that pays minimum of £95 per week (employed or self employed)

How do I apply for the programme?

If you are interested in the programme and meet all the criteria, submit the application form to the LTA with your chosen mentoring centre indicated.

The first intake will be the w/c 8th February 2010 and you will need to have applied by Monday 1st February 2010.

The second intake be in April  2010 and you will need to have applied by the middle of March 2010.
