The award goes to Cathie for her outstanding contribution to British Tennis on a voluntary basis. Cathie represents Shropshire on the LTA Council and that Council elected her to represent them on the Main Board of the Lawn Tennis Association which sets strategy for the whole of British Tennis.
In addition to this she is Chairman of the Schools Advisory Group, a member of the Board of the Tennis Foundation and is Chairman of the AEGON Classic Tournament held in Birmingham before Wimbledon.
Cathie came to Shropshire in 1970 and was a founder member of the tennis Club at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall. She joined Bridgnorth Tennis Club in 1975, is a member of Welti Helath & Fitrnessand still plays for County Veteran teams.
Tennis has always been her passion and when teaching at Idsall School Cathie was instrumental in developing tennis and accessing funds for the development of all weather floodlit courts on the school site when it became a Sports College.
She organised the ball crew at the National Championships when they were held at Telford International Centre, providing 140 young people to support the tournament each year. She also organised coaching clinics for club members during the tournament and worked with players such as Tom Okker, John Lloyd, Anabel Croft and Roger Taylor.
Cathie is a referee and helps to organise the Junior County Closed each year.She even manages to play some tennis in her free time!
Well done Cathie - a thoroughly deserved honour.
