What a year 2009 has been for tennis in Scotland!
It's been a year where Andy Murray became the first British player to ever be ranked number 2 in the world. Paralympian Gordon Reid is ranked number 1 junior in the world in wheelchair tennis and is closing in on the top 10 in the senior game. Elena Baltacha and Colin Fleming entered the world top 100 for the first time and Jamie Baker's return to full fitness has seen him flying back up the rankings.
Performances have been strong across all junior age groups with Scotland boasting numerous Great Britain internationalists. Scotland regained the Home Nations Championships on home soil, whilst we proudly hosted three AEGON Pro Series events during the year. Dunfermline ladies won the Scottish Cup for a record 18th time.
Performances at the top end of our sport have been a catalyst for growing the game at grassroots level. More people are playing tennis in Scotland than ever before.
37 clubs in Scotland have worked hard to achieve Tennis Clubmark and demonstrate excellent standards in their club management. Club forums were held all across Scotland to allow clubs to come together to discuss best practice and to share ideas.
The annual Tennis Scotland Coaches Conference saw 92 of our coaches interact with a host of guest speakers from all over the world. And more and more coaches are coming into tennis, with the UKCC Level 1 and Level 2 awards proving particularly popular.
