Top Flight Tennis at The Flybe Finals

The Flybe Mini Master’s event took place at The Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin on Tuesday.  13 players from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset battled it out to become the champion and take away the fantastic prize of Flybe flights for themselves and their family, plus a master tennis session with Lucie Ahl.

Players had qualified for the event by playing in various circuit events around the region and the crème gathered for an action packed day.  Each player received a Freddie Flybe Bear to start the day before playing some outstanding matches, all contested in great spirit.  

The final was between Edward Shattock and Michael Owen, both from Somerset, who had a fantastic match with long rallies.  It was Michael who came out on top winning 4-2, 5-4.

Georgina Loosemore, Tennis Development Manager for Cornwall and Devon said “a superb event and fantastic finale to the Flybe events.  Congratulations to all players and many thanks to our sponsor Flybe.  The next season starts in September and we hope to make the circuit bigger and better so get entering”.
 
Simon Lilley, Flybe's Director of Marketing said: "We set out two years' ago to help improve the quality of junior tennis in the region and also increase the quantity of players taking part in competitions. We are absolutely delighted that numbers have increased five-fold over this time. The overall standard of play shown by those taking part in this year's Finals can only be described as exceptional."

A big thank you to Sue Eames who refereed the event , to the Bodmin College students who did a fantastic job as court supervisors and to the Dragon Leisure Centre for hosting the event and helping prepare the courts.
