Cheshire Veterans’ Successes at National Indoor Championships

Thursday, February 04, 2010

John Hilton became a National Champion at only his second attempt when he won the Over 60s event at Dudley last week.  He overcame the number one seed Richard Tutt in three sets in the semi final then won his final comfortably against Keith Bland 6-3, 6-0. He and his partner were narrowly beaten in the final of the doubles losing 7-6 in the final set tie-break. Well done, John.
Another Cheshire success was Alma A’Court winning the Over 70s doubles with her partner Ruth Weston.
Cheshire was also well represented in the semi-finals.  Seb Jackson lost in a hard hitting Over 35s match.  Sue Winters took a set off the number two seed, Sally Freeman in her semi-final, and Sue Winters and Barbara Bloor were well beaten in their match against the number one seeds in the Over 55s doubles.  Tony Burgess also succumbed in his semi-final doubles in the Over 70s.
