Cambridgeshire Players excel at Aegon 18 and under Masters

Both Sam Fleck and Sophie Watts qualified for the 18 and under Aegon Masters Tournament at Reohampton. This is for the top 16 players from the previous Grand Prix circuit.

Both had a very good weekend with Sophe Watts doing extremely well reaching the semi finals before losing to the eventual winner Abbi Melrose. Sophie beat Georgia Craven from York in the first round 6-2 6-1 and then Leicestershire’s Helen Thorpe in the quarter finals 6-3 6-4 before losing in a good match to Abbi Melrose 6-1 6-3 in the semi finals.

Sam Fleck had a tough draw meeting top seed Gavin Davison in the first round where he narrowly lost 6-3 1-6 5-7 and played very well. Sam came back to win the consolation event beating Marshall Tutu 6-4, 6-3 and then Daniel Elston 6-3 6-2 in the final.
