U12 Girls County Cup

This years girls U12 county cup was always going to be a tough weekend with strong counties in the Berkshire girls group.
Day 1 Berkshire faced Kent and Sussex. The girls played Sussex first which on paper were a stronger team; despite this the girls went into their matches with a great attitude and gave it their all. In the singles Alisha was the only player to win a game but the scores did not reflect how close the matches actually were. The girls showed great determination and kept fighting all the way as the doubles showed with the girls winning the second set and narrowly losing the deciding tie break. Berkshire lost the match 4-0.

Despite the heavy defeat by Sussex the girls regrouped and then played against Kent who is always a strong team. Again all the Berkshire girls showed a great attitude and good spirit throughout their matches. The girls lost all their matches against a strong Kent team. This meant that we would be playing for 5th and 6th place on day 2.

Day 2 saw the Berkshire girls play the loser of the other group which was Dorset. The Dorset girls got off to a good start with Marsha Hobbs beating Matilda 4-0, 4-0. Marsha played a very strong attacking game which proved too strong for Matilda. Alisha and Alex went on after this and showed great determination and a positive attitude. Alisha had a very close encounter but held her nerve well to win the match on a Match tie-break 10-8. Alex proved too steady for her opponent and won her match 4-2 4-0, a great performance under pressure. The girls then went into the doubles and narrowly lost 5-3 4-2 taking the tie to a shootout tie break. The girls again held their nerve and won the tie-break 10-3 to take the match and Berkshire finishing 5th. A deserved result for the girls who never let their head’s drop and fought hard in every match. A big well done from me.
