Entered in both the U16’s age group and the U18’s age group Elliott was seeded 7 in the first age group and un-seeded in the older age group.
Starting his campaign in the U18’s Elliott made a clear run through the draw to the semi-finals without dropping a set. Meeting Simon Howson in the Semi Finals, Elliott took the first set 6-2, the second set was closer and eventually went to Howson 6-4 and finally he closed the match out at 6-1.
None the less, further National Ranking points from this result will help to consolidate Elliott’s position as Bedfordshire’s No.1 U18.
Playing in the U16’s Elliott made it to the Semi Finals dropping just 1 game up to that point in the tournament where he then met Sebastian Rey the No.5 seed. A closely fought first set saw Elliott take the lead in the tie breaker to win the set 7-6. Thereafter Elliott applied the pressure and took the second set 6-3 to earn his place in the finals this Saturday.
In the finals the No. 8 seed Harry Edwards from Yorkshire had made it through from the lower part of the draw. Elliott started with serve and Edwards managed to take a lead up to 5-2 with one break of serve. Elliott then fought back to bring the score back to 5-5. By raising his game further he was able to win the first set 7-5. Again in the second set Elliott applied more pressure and closed out to win the tournament 6-2.
National Ranking points from this win should take him to approximately 38 in the UK now in the U16’s age group, of which Elliott is in his first year and when looking at the 95 age group this tournament win will take his National Ranking to approximately No. 6 in the UK.
Elliott now travels to Czechoslovakia for training on clay before his entry into the Bournemouth Open and the Nationals immediately thereafter.
