The responsibility for operational decision making lies with the LTA’s Leadership team previously known as the Executive team.
As such, the team is responsible for the implementation of the strategy, objectives and major policies of the LTA and are directly accountable to the Board and are responsible for briefing and updating the Board with relevant information.
The current Leadership Team incorporates all the critical areas of the business and its members are:
Over the past 5 years he has led the transformation of British Tennis, putting in place a practical strategy, modernised the organisation, engineered the joining-up of all aspects of the sport and secured new commercial backing. He is now leading a more informed approach to sports business management ensuring the growth of British tennis is sustained and the best return on investment secured.
Previously he spent 3 years as CEO of Sport England, leading a major review and reorganisation of the £500m spent on sport in the UK, involvement in the 2012 bid and Team England’s 2006 Commonwealth Games campaign.
As a former athlete, Roger has gained international honours in both rugby league and tennis.
Nick Humby joined the LTA in September 2011 as Finance Director and brings experience from a wide range of roles in the Media, Football and Theatre. After qualifying with Price Waterhouse he has held Finance Director roles at Screensport, Thames Television, Pearson Television, Manchester United, Top Up TV and Vitec.
In addition to these roles he has been responsible for the development and management of a TV Playout and facilities business and while at Manchester United was responsible to the Board for the day to day running of all aspects of the Old Trafford stadium.
Nick was a non executive on The Ambassadors Theatre Group for 10 years and provided interim management services to them after the acquisition of the Live nations Venues. He was a non executive of the Modern Times Group, the Swedish based pan European broadcast group for three years. He is currently an independent member of the FA General Audit Committee and a Trustee of the Richmond Theatre trust.
Karen Neale joined the LTA in March 2010 as the Head of Legal Services. Karen has more than 13 years’ of experience advising Sports’ Governing Bodies on a wide variety of legal issues, having spent 7 years in the Sports Team at the City law firm Denton Wilde Sapte and 5 years with the Rugby Football Union.
Karen’s team provides a wide range of business services to the LTA, covering all legal aspects, as well as Safeguarding and Equality & Diversity. Karen’s role also includes acting as the LTA’s Disciplinary Officer, the Company Secretary and the Secretary to the LTA Council.
Christine Johnson joined the LTA Human Resources team in 2007, and brings more than 10 years’ experience in general business administration and HR management gained in the sport, commercial, professional services, and not for profit sectors.
Christine plays a central role in helping more people play tennis through the development and delivery of the LTA people strategy, which supports the performance and development of our people and their relations both internally and externally with the broader tennis community.
Christine’s role oversees HR & Development team and service delivery in addition to acting as an advisor to the Board on the development of the HR strategy and the operations of the Remuneration Committee.
Christine is a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Leon Smith was appointed as LTA Head of Men’s Tennis and AEGON GB Davis Cup captain in 2010, and is now the Head of Men's and Women's Tennis at the LTA.
Leon has been a professional tennis coach for 16 years, and joined the LTA as National Training Coach for Scotland, before taking up the role of National Performance Coach for Scotland.
In 2007 he became Head Coach of the U16s for Men’s Tennis, then Head Coach for the U18s the following year and in 2009 he was appointed LTA Head of Player Development for Men’s Tennis.
Simon Jones joined the NTC Player team in the summer of 2007 and leads the Performance Support teams including sports science and medicine, the talent team and the performance centre network programme.
Simon has a lifetime of experience in British tennis, both as a junior and professional player, and as a club coach. He joined the LTA in 1990 as a full time National coach, and was then instrumental in developing the Sports Training Village at the University of Bath.
Tom Harlow has worked in a number of roles across sport since 2004 at Sport England, the Football Association and the LTA. Previously, Tom worked for London Underground / Transport for London.
Tom is now Development Director with responsibility for the delivery of the LTA’s field team across the country, playing a central role in helping more people play tennis.
Tom also manages the services hub team and the LTA’s technology strategy, which are increasingly supporting the field team to work effectively with tennis people.
Geoff Newton is a member of the Committee of Management for The Championships, Wimbledon, and joined the Tennis Foundation in early 2011 from the London Delivery Authority where he was responsible for developing and delivering social and economic benefits for London through the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He has held senior management roles at Marks and Spencer, including a three years in charge of M&S Foods in Europe, The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) and as Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, one of the leading professional bodies for industry, based in London. Geoff has been involved in tennis throughout his life, at club, county and international levels. He competed in the Gentleman’s Doubles at The Championships, Wimbledon, was a junior national singles and doubles champion, represented Yorkshire and captained Oxford University tennis.
Matt is responsible for the LTA’s work in coaching, facilities, competitions and programmes, and helped to set up the High Performance Centre network.
Matt ran his own coaching business, and worked for Wilson Sporting Goods as UK Technical Advisor, before joining the LTA in 1996.
He’s worked as a County Development and Coaching Officer for Somerset LTA, as Regional Development Manager for the East, and as LTA Major Projects Manager.
James Munro joined the LTA Communications team in 2010 after spending 6 years as a Sports Correspondent at the BBC. Before that, he worked as a sports journalist at ITN, Sky News and Sky Sports News.
Lawrence joined the LTA in 2007 and played a significant role in creating a new LTA commercial programme.
Lawrence is responsible for the LTA's major events portfolio as well as overseeing the LTA’s relationships with broadcast and Tour partners. Sponsor retention and acquisition are also a significant part of Lawrence's brief.
Lawrence worked for the Scottish Rugby Union and has more than a decade of experience in sports marketing and media.
Adam oversees the LTA sponsorship and hospitality teams, and works closely with LTA commercial partners in the delivery, protection and activation of their sponsorship rights.
Adam joined the LTA in 2007 and played a key role in developing a new LTA commercial programme, which saw AEGON confirmed as Lead Partner for British Tennis.
Adam has previously worked at Octagon, where over eight years he provided sponsorship consultancy to a wide range of brands including Vodafone, Zurich and Diageo.
