Costing Your Programme

Regardless of whether you are operating a commercial programme or a small village club, the tennis programme should cover its cost and in many cases generate a profit.

Profit from the tennis programme is used in different ways; subsidise the performance sessions, pay for more equipment, contribute towards the facility sinking fund, pay for ‘taster’ sessions at potential new schools/community sites, additional coach education, tournament visits.

Areas to consider when costing a programme

• Do you incorporate the cost of equipment, court usage and administration within your prices?
• Do you incorporate coach retainers for associated administrative work within your prices?
• Do you generate a profit from your coaching and competition programme?
• What do you do with the profit generated – reinvest in equipment, coach education, taster sessions?
• How to compare with the cost of other tennis programmes within your region?
• Do you allocate some of the income/profit for courts fees/sinking fund?
