Ratings FAQs

Which results count towards ratings?

LTA tournament results are automatically sent to us and are underwritten by us. For non LTA tournament results it is the responsibility of the tournament organiser to send in the results.

How can I improve my rating?

  • Juniors with a rating of 9.2 or higher need to achieve 7 Qualifying wins with a 60% win/loss ratio in all qualifying matches.
  • Adults need 3 qualifying wins with a 60% win/loss ratio in all qualifying matches.

Do results count towards both Mid and End of Season Ratings Runs?

They will because results from the whole 6 months will be taken into consideration based on your rating at the time of the ratings run. Therefore the same match results may help you increase in both the Mid Season and End Season Ratings run.

Do Mid Season changes to my opponents ratings affect me?

They can do. For example

If you have beaten a player rated one level below yourself and their rating goes up in the Mid Season Ratings Run then this will count as a qualifying win in the End of Season Ratings Run.

This is because changes are made against a players current rating.

If, for example, you're a 9.1 player and you loose to another 9.1 player who then rises to an 8.2 in the Mid Season Ratings this won't then count as a qualifying loss in the End of Season Ratings run.

When can I start to use my new rating?

You can use your new rating once they are live on the LTA website www.lta.org.uk/players  if you enter a competition before that date you must enter with your current rating.

Can I go up more than one level in a ratings run?

No,  it is only possible to increase a player can only increase one ratings level at a time.

Can my rating go down?

Yes, but only if you are an adult player and rated 5.1 or better. In order to maintain your rating, you require 1 qualifying win and a 30% win/loss ratio.

What happens to my rating if I’m injured?
If you are injured for at least half of a playing season, we can, on request and with sufficient documentary evidence, maintain or ‘freeze’ your rating for a period of time.

Please contact your local County office or email CompetitionServices@LTA.org.uk in the first instance.

What if I think my rating is wrong?

If you think that your rating is incorrect you should contact the Competition Services department via email giving us details of your circumstances.

We can then review your rating, primarily based on your competitive results, and make a decision from there.

Please email us on CompetitionServices@LTA.org.uk

Do results from abroad count for my rating?

If you play in competition abroad against foreign players the will not count towards your LTA rating.

If you play an LTA rated player in competition abroad, the result can count towards ratings but both players must be aware that it will count and the result must be submitted to the Competition Services Department via email with the official competition drawsheets.
