Useful websites for parents

As always there is plenty of information and advice out there for parents on the web, if anything there seems to be more than ever. Therefore Dan Thorp has listed some of the better offerings he has found whilst searching the web and gives some introductory text below.

If you have any feedback on these, their usefulness and what you think then email us

International Tennis Federation

This website has a massive amount of information and articles on tennis and tennis coaching. This article in particular is quite long and I wouldn’t worry too much about the 2nd half of it, but the 1st few pages give excellent guidelines and advice for parents of tennis players.

ProcompareTennis.net

This is a UK based website mainly aimed at tennis coaches and tennis fans. There is, however, a whole section devoted to parents – and there is world class stuff on it.

There appears to be a bit of a Kent connection going on as they have articles from Paul Dent and Roberto Forzoni - both Kent based, who are 2 of the best sports psychologists that you’ll find in the UK – and Paul Dent has a tennis coaching background so his insight is exceptional.

Sue Cowley

I always recommend this writer to coaches – she is a teaching expert and gives great advice on how to handle tricky situations. I’ve just visited the site again and they say that they are about to add a parent’s section – which should be great. In the meantime check out the articles for teachers.

John Murray

John Murray is a top sports psychologist he writes the kind of articles which you can read and also pass onto your kids – and perhaps talk through.

MomsTeam.com

This site is very American – but don’t let that out you off! There is loads of info on it for parents of sports mad kids. Ranging from dealing with all sorts of tricky situations to basics on how to treat an injury. Not a site you’d read right through – but definitely one to remember for when you need it.

ResponsibleSports.com

This site is worth a look, especially if your children are just starting out in tennis. There is some good solid advice on there to help you get started in the right way – oh and don’t forget to take the quiz at the end!
