Equality & Diversity

The LTA is committed to ensuring tennis remains an open and accessible sport enjoyed by everyone and is working within the framework set by the Equality Standard for Sport.

The Equality Standard for Sport is a national framework designed to support the LTA’s efforts to widen access and inequalities in tennis.

There are four levels to the Equality Standard:

  • Foundation
  • Preliminary
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced.

The LTA secured the Foundation level in November 2006, and the Preliminary level in March 2008, and has developed a 3 year plan to address issues that have been identified and ensure that tennis is inclusive to everyone.

Progress:

  • Equal pay in the men’s and women’s events at Wimbledon
  • Appointment of Head of Men’s and Women’s Tennis to ensure a balance
  • Launch of the Tennis Foundation and the “One Game All” strategy
    More on The Tennis Foundation
  • A Talent ID program that ensures a transparent and systematic approach to supporting players

We will continue to put effort and resources into creating equality in tennis, and strive to reach the intermediate and advanced levels of the Equality Standard for Sport.

LTA Equality & Diversity Monitoring

In our commitment to making tennis accessible to all, we audit and monitor our business activities constantly by asking questions related to gender, ethnicity, disability and age. We take appropriate steps if it appears that our Equality and Diversity Policy is not fully effective and is not being delivered correctly. The information we gather is used to inform our business plans and to inform us on the areas we need to increase investments.
